  1. What if I have to cancel attendance in a class?newly updated

1.  What is Lean Six Sigma?

Lean Six Sigma is a powerful process improvement methodology that combines the strategy and tools inherent in Lean with the cultural, structural and analytical methods of Six Sigma. The DMAIC process (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) provides the overriding

structure to solve problems.

2.  What is your approach to Lean Six Sigma training?

o    We use a two-instructor model. This approach exposes students to differing areas of expertise, and allows for more student support during class exercises.

  • We typically schedule more challenging topics in the morning when students are fresh, and more active and fun topics in the afternoon.
  • The course material is very focused on the practical application of the various tools and methods. We limit the time spent on theory and focus on how to achieve results.

3.  What is the difference in a Black Belt and a Green Belt?

Both Green Belts and Black Belts are problem solvers. They are trained on the DMAIC process and both Lean and Six Sigma tools. Green Belts attend a two-week course and learn basic problem-solving tools. Black Belts attend a more rigorous

four-week course and learn basic and advanced tools.

4.  What is included in the price for the training?

  • Virtual Coach software, which integrates an electronic copy of all course materials, exercise files, references, search capabilities, note taking and export capabilities
  • Course textbooks (this varies with the class)
  • Training materials (a 3-ring binder for each week of class)
  • Various paper handouts, files, and related materials
  • Breakfast & lunch daily, plus snacks, coffee & soft drinks

5.  What is NOT included in the price for the training?

  • For Black Belt students, you must have your own laptop computer and it must have the latest version of Minitab statistical software installed.
  • Minitab can be purchased through George Group. Please contact us for details.
  • The price does not include travel, hotel, meals outside of class and related expenses.
  • For Green Belt students, it is recommended (but not required) that you bring your own laptop computer.

6.  What is the price for training?

See the George Group Standard Open Enrollment Matrix

7.  Are there any prerequisites to the Green Belt or Black Belt courses?

  • The more knowledgeable you are about lean and statistical concepts, the easier these courses will be for you. However, you do not have to be a math or statistics ‘wizard’ to do well in this training. We start in Week 1 with an assumption that you know very little about lean or statistics. More important is your ability to learn and to think critically.
  •  If you are concerned about your abilities, we recommend that you take our Pre-Course Algebra and Statistics Quizzes. You should be able to answer the questions on these short quizzes relatively easily. Please contact us for a copy of these documents.

8.  How do I get certified as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt?

  • Two certificates are given out: One for completing the course, and a second one for showing you can use the DMAIC process and appropriate Lean Six Sigma tools to achieve significant results at your company.
  • Certificate 1(Course)  – You must do the following:
    • Complete all PreWork and Homework assignments
    • Participate actively in all scheduled training
    • Pass the final comprehensive exam (80% or higher)
  • Certificate 2(Projects)  – You must do the following:
    • Complete one (Green Belt) or two (Black Belt) projects using the DMAIC process, and have a significant financial impact
    • Prepare documentation summarizing the completed project work and submit it for review
    • Submit a letter endorsing your work from a senior manager
    • Some firms have their own requirements for the second certificate - especially in terms of the level of financial impact. We will honor those requirements.
    • Many firms choose to certify their own Green Belts.

9.  What guidelines can you offer to help me choose a project?

  • The project should be one that:
    • Can be completed in 3-5 months
    • Should have a high likelihood of success
    • Should be of strategic importance to your company
    • Should have the potential for significant financial
    • Should result in a solution that can be replicated elsewhere
  • The most common mistake of new Green Belt and Black Belt students is choosing projects where the scope is too big.

10.  What time does class start and end?

  • Green Belt and Black Belt classes are held from Monday through Friday
  • Classes begin at noon on Monday and end at noon on Friday
  • Monday through Thursday classes end about 5:30PM
  • Classes begin on Tuesday through Friday at 8:00AM

11.  Where will the training classes be held?

12.  How big are the classes?

  • Classes range from as small as eight to as many as 25.
  • Most classes have 12-18 course participants.

13.  What sort of help can I expect from the course instructors on my project?

  • Our experience is that new Green Belts and Black Belts are much more effective when they have a coach to help them on their first project.
  • During the week of class, the instructors are available to meet with you during breaks or outside of normal class hours.
  • Between weeks of class, our instructors can answer limited questions, typically via email or by scheduling time for a phone call.
  • After class is complete you can arrange for additional coaching sessions.

14.  What do students find to be most challenging about this training?

  • Many Green Belt and Black Belt students find the pace of the course to be challenging.  The effect can be somewhat akin to trying to ‘drink from a fire hose’.
  • For Black Belt students, the most technically advanced topics include Replenishment Pull Systems, Analysis of Variance and Design of Experiments.
  • Individuals who are accustomed to being on their feet with their normal job will sometimes find the time spent seated in a classroom environment to be a challenge.  However, instructors attempt to alternate lectures with exercises, simulations, and discussions and take frequent breaks.

15. Can the training be conducted at our offices?

Onsite training can be provided if you have enough people for a class. Contact us for details.
